The series is being backed by Convers Sports Initiatives, a company led by Russian businessmen Vladimir Antonov and Roman Dubov, and Chris Akers, a former chief executive of Leeds United.
PowerPlay Golf is the brainchild of former Walker Cup captain Peter McEvoy, and is an abbreviated golfing format with a heightened emphasis on risk and reward. Two flags are positioned on each green, with the riskier ‘Black’ pin position worth extra points.
“I really hope PowerPlay Golf catches on at grass roots level and gets people out playing more often,” says Englishman Casey. “I am sure we can put on a great show in the first event to kick-start the two-flag game and do for golf what Twenty20 has done for cricket”.
