The PGA Merchandise Show claims that over 42,000 industry professionals descended upon the Orange County Convention Centre last month – there was certainly a lot of energy about the show – but it is ironic that after all the elaborate product displays, marketing presentations and sales pitches, the biggest story in the golf trade right now missed the show altogether (no disrespect to the ProV1’s new dimples intended – they are the finest dimples I have ever seen).

Nike Golf, a brand with a relatively low-key presence in Orlando, is just beginning to shed some light on the golf ball project it has been keeping under such tight wraps over the past four years. We report what little we know about the 20XI balls on p6 – without even a picture to go with it – apologies, we tried – but the key technology involves using resin as the core to the ball rather than rubber. Nike is promising impressive results, but there is no news yet on when these 20XI balls will be ready to be teed up. We will keep you posted.
