The uPro’s BasicMode offers the standard information golfers would expect from a GPS unit; Green View and Hazard View provides golfers with distances to the front, centre and back of greens, and to the front and back of hazards, while also identifying the nature of the hazard.
Added ProMode features serve as the uPro’s selling points, starting with high-resolution aerial photography of golf holes combined with graphics that can be downloaded from www.uprogps.com . This is where added cost to the consumer comes in, as the ProMode package for a single 18-hole golf course can cost £4.95, but volume bundles are available which can reduce the cost per course down to 66p. The uPro can store up to 50 golf courses at ProMode level at any one time, and then golfers are faced with no further membership or subscription costs.
Other ProMode features include aerial flyovers of each hole, AnyPoint Technology, which provides golfers with distances between any two points on a golf course, and Virtual Green View, which Callaway says shows the green and surrounds in ‘vivid’ detail.
Callaway tells SGB Golf that is has nearly 20,000 golf courses mapped out worldwide, including 85% of American 18-hole courses so far, and 2,500 in the UK. Of the 2,500 UK courses, approximately 2,200 are available with Callaway’s ProMode photography and graphics, with these numbers rising all the time.
