Then roll the tip in epoxy to get an even coating and apply the same to the inside of the hosel. Then push the shaft through the bore, ensuring the tip clears the sole on both the toe and heel side.
Once the epoxy has cured, file down as close to the sole as you can without touching the head, and then glue in a tip plug to seal the hole in the shaft. File down again, then wrap a piece of fine emery paper round the file to finish. Don’t worry about touching the head as long as you file with the grain. Rub down with a piece of Scotchbrite to achieve a professional finish.
It is worth bearing in mind that a shaft designed for a blind bore head will stiffen up considerably when put into a through-bore. In this case it may be worth drilling out the old shaft only to within 1 - 1 ¼ inches of the sole, to create a blind bore. If you have pulled and saved the original shaft, simply glue in an old piece of graphite tip section about 1 - 1 ¼ inches long and finish as above. Then put the new shaft in on top.
