As well as being the lightest driver TaylorMade has ever produced, the Burner SuperFast also has the largest clubface, measuring 4,500 square millimetres, thanks to a 460cc clubhead that is sleeker and more aerodynamic than the previous Burner models. The larger the clubface the better, of course, as the new driver is fitted with a Matrix Ozik XCon 4.8 shaft measuring 46.5 inches long. That’s almost long enough for pole vaulting, but these measures are all made in the quest for clubhead speed.
To its credit, TaylorMade admits the Burner SuperFast, with an RRP of £239, could be “more challenging for the average player to make square contact consistently,” thanks to its lack of weight and length of shaft.
The support acts, the Burner SuperFast fairway woods, are made from 17-4 steel and are also very light and long. On offer is 3-wood (15°), 5-wood (18°) and 7 wood (21°), with RRPs of £149.
‘Techies’ among golfers may find TaylorMade’s R9 SuperTri more alluring, as this is the company’s first driver to combine its Flight Control Technology and Movable Weight Technology into a 460cc clubhead. The R9 SuperTri comes with an RRP of £329, while the SuperTri TP is labelled at £379 with a choice of premium shafts, and along with all the new clubs detailed above, they are heading towards a March 1 delivery.
