Golf's penetration in Italy is one of the lowest in Europe: only 0.15% of its total population play golf, ranking Italy 21st among all European countries, behind Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Portugal. On the other hand, an average number of rounds played at its 18-hole golf courses of 23,000 is 5th in Europe, after only Scotland, the Netherlands, Spain and Portugal.
While golf remains an elitist sport in Italy the number of registered golfers is growing, with women and younger generations becoming more involved, and with the Italian Golf Federation actively attracting more people to the game, the numbers look set to rise.
In terms of brand popularity, Chervo dominates the technical apparel sector, with Footjoy and adidas particularly strong in footwear.
