The G15 features an elongated 460cc clubhead that Ping says will increase the MOI by up to 15%, leading to greater stability through impact and even more forgiveness for off-centre strikes.
"G15 is the more forgiving of the two drivers," John Solheim, president and CEO of Ping, tells SGB Golf exclusively in the Ping Tour truck at the Open, prior to the official launch. "The clubface of the i15 is a little thinner, and it is not quite as forgiving as the G15 for strikes away from the middle.
"Having said that, I don't call myself a good golfer, but I took the i15 out on the course and it is the driver going in my bag. I was surprised how well I hit it, because I tend to need more forgiveness."
The i15 clubhead is also 460cc, yet it appears smaller that the G15 due to its traditional pear shape. With a striking Titanium-carbon satin finish, golfers can expect a slightly lower trajectory from the i15, and it should allow very good players a bit more workability.
"This club has just a gorgeous finish," adds Solheim. "It has a little more bulge and roll on the clubface, so it is made for the golfer who expects to strike the ball with the centre of the clubface most of the time, and the clubface is a little bit hotter in the middle. This is an awfully good driver."
The G15 and i15 ranges will begin retail delivery in mid-August.
