Catching the big fish
Roger Sherman, managing director of Messe Munchen International's UK branch, Pattern Ltd, looks forward to welcoming some of golf's most famous brands to Golf Europe in Munich
Published:  14 July, 2009

I have a confession to make - I don't play golf. However, I've had lessons from pros - usually as part of a conference thingy - and found the moment when you make that perfect sweet connection between iron and ball to be quite exhilarating (although without that same pure delight of the perfectly-timed extra cover drive, of course). Putting still strikes me as very irritating, though.

However, after many years of promoting Munich's Golf Europe to the trade, I find my views changing as I contemplate more relaxed years ahead and the chance of actually taking up what is certainly a challenging sport. It will be with increased interest therefore that I will observe what many companies have to offer in Munich from September 27-29. This year, brands to be seen include Ashworth, Callaway, Sunice with TaylorMade adidas Golf, Srixon, Tommy Armour, Hi-Tec, Motorcaddy, Wilson and many others. These larger firms attract the smaller ones, which means close to 300 companies will be exhibiting again this year. There are few industry-only opportunities for the golf trade to get together and for suppliers and customers to meet, which is why shows like Munich's Golf Europe are important. Three halls of the MOC are full.

So I hope many of you will join this aspiring player and the 4,000 or so other visitors from around Europe to see what the golf industry has to offer for next season. One bonus this year, of course, is that visitors can also see around 500 additional sports and footwear brands in the MOC's permanent showrooms above the exhibition. How to choose?
