Paul's Aegean Airlines idyll
Published:  07 July, 2009

Paul Nilbrink was runaway winner of the 4th Aegean Airlines tournament, by nine clear strokes and with a 15-under-par total of 129 over 36 holes. Nilbrink's outstanding performance included a second round 63, nine under par.

A truly international performer, Nilbrink was born in the UK to Swedish parents. Brought up in Sweden, he went to university in Florida before returning to Sweden, and he eventually settled in Norway 10 years ago. Nilbrink's success was inspired by tragedy, however. "Recently a friend of mine in Norway was killed on a motorbike," he said after his win. "Immediately before leaving for Greece I was at his funeral, and I dedicate my win to him."

The pro-ams endorsed by the PGAs of Europe are proving to be a welcome stage for players who might have the basic ability to succeed on the main tours but, for one reason or another, are unable to do so on a regular basis.
