At first glimpse, the CentreCup might make people wonder whether PGA pro Ian Melville is working on a solution to NHS hospital bed shortages. They would be wrong.
Melville has created a unit that is intended to mould the perfect pendulum putting stroke, just like the Explanar moulds the golf swing. When a golfer is connected to CentreCup, it ensures that the golfer's shoulders, forearms, hips, knees and feet are all aligned square to the hole, and it also keeps the putter face square to the line of the putt throughout the stroke.
Setting up within the CentreCup frame, a brace keeps the golfer's shoulders in position while an anti-break putter brace holds the wrists in the correct position through the stroke.
"The pure in-line square (PILS) putting stroke is the easiest action to coach and the easiest for golfers to understand," says Melville. "CentreCup gives instant feedback on what that feels like and trains golfers to replicate that feeling on the course.
"The reaction from teaching professionals and the public has been fantastic, with advance orders that have exceeded our targets. We are genuinely excited by the global potential of CentreCup."
Melville estimates that over 20,000 putts were taken in the CentreCup by golfers at the NEC and Scottish Golf Shows.
