Teaching the teachers
Published:  27 April, 2009

A new programme has been introduced under the PGAs of Europe's education policy, designed to train national tutors and assessors to a new and improved European Standard across the member countries.

The Tutor/Assessor training programme has been in development since the beginning of 2008, with director of education Tony Bennett and Kirsty McDonald (UK Sports Coach trainer) leading the process.

The first step in implementing the process took place with an introductory session at Roda, Spain from February 3-6, and more such sessions are to be announced in the near future.

"One of the stated objectives of The PGAs of Europe is to deliver quality assurance of golf professional and coaching qualifications throughout Europe," explained Bennett. "This will necessitate the re-evaluation and licensing of member countries as we move into 2010 and beyond. Once we have ironed out any implementation issues we expect to be able open the programme to all member countries by this autumn."
