The golf industry is warming up for a very eventful 2009, complete with a dose of turmoil.

For a start, the full ramifications of some major shifts in the trade will unfold, with TaylorMade adidas taking over Ashworth and with Greg Norman Collection converting its UK business to a licensed concern.

Titleist and Callaway trade punches

Callaway and Titleist will be striking each other off the Christmas card list this year (if they were on each other's list in the first place) after the United States District Court in Delaware granted Callaway's request for a permanent injunction to stop sales of the Titleist Pro V1 family of golf balls, effective from January 1, 2009, due to an infringement of Callaway patents.

Harrington and Wilson renew vows

Ending months of speculation, Padraig Harrington has renewed his contract with Wilson Golf to compete on Tour playing with Wilson Staff clubs.

Ecco goes dotty

Premium Danish shoemaker Ecco has launched its 2009 Men's Golf Collection, and central to the new range is the introduction of the brand's signature Four Dots logo.

Four Eyes

Snake Eyes has launched a new line of four Tour Platinum putters for 2009.

Each model has a different body style, but all four share Snake Eyes' Advanced Roll Control milling pattern on the clubface, which is designed to minimise backspin just after impact, and keep the ball on line with a true roll. The milling patterns consist of a series of semi-circular cuts at an upward angle to encourage topspin.

Sports HQ has Woodworm

Birmingham-based online retail company Sports HQ has bought golf and cricket brand Woodworm. Known in golf for its apparel line, Woodworm joins other golf brands Forgan of St Andrews, Prosimmon Golf, Confidence Golf and Young Gun in the Sports HQ stable.

TaylorMade gives title to Kia Ma

TaylorMade has launched a new, premium line of five Rossa TP by Kia Ma putters.

Vietnam native Ma stated working in putter design in the United States in the 1980s and joined TaylorMade six years ago. His new putters have already been played on Tour by Justin Rose, Sergio Garcia, Paul McGinley and Andres Romero.

Club class for Lyle & Scott

Lyle & Scott has launched its Club collection for Spring-Summer 2009. The new range is aimed at younger male and female golfers, and the distinctive Green Eagle logo appears on every item. Word from the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando is that those attending next year, from January 29-31, had better bring as comfortable a pair of shoes as ever. There will still be 10 miles of aisles dedicated to the event at the Orange County Convention Centre, there will be one million square feet of floor covered by stands and presentation areas, over 1,200 exhibitors and a total attendance expected to top 45,000.

Building bridges

Bridgestone is a brand synonymous with motor racing and title sponsor of one of the world's richest golf tournaments, yet it seemed to be sitting out in the wings of the UK golf trade in recent years. Seve Grind

The new Seve Grind wedge from MD Golf will be on sale to golfers in the build-up to Christmas. Having been one of many Tour golfers who used to ask club-fitters to ‘grind off' relief from the toe and heel of his wedges, Ballesteros and MD Golf have produced just such a wedge, with softer lines and improved feel. The offset wedge also comes with Seve's razor groove system, designed to maximise spin.

Tom Watson

The Tom Watson wedges are available in a three-club set, incorporating a 52º gap wedge, 56º sand wedge and  60º lob wedge. Both the trailing and leading edges of the clubheads are bevelled to reduce turf drag, with a view to maximising versatility around the greens, and a wide sole is designed to offer more forgiveness.

Bridgestone
West Coast

The West Coast wedges from Bridgestone have classic head shapes but with Variable Bounce Technology to give the clubs low bounce at the heel and toe of the sole. The wedges are made from 8620 mild carbon steel for a soft feel, and CNC milled U-grooves are designed to impart maximum spin. The Liquid Copper model will rust over time for added traction, and all clubs in the series come fitted with True Temper Dynamic Gold Shafts.

Cleveland
CG14

The CG14 features Cleveland's Gelback technology, which consists of a lightweight, visco-elastic, vibration-dampening material in the back cavity of the clubhead, behind the hitting area of the clubface. Gelback is designed to remove unwanted vibrations on miss-hits, yet still provide a responsive feel. The club also has Zip grooves, which are precisely milled to maximum conforming dimensions. The CG14 comes in black pearl or chrome, and also with a women's model. Club lofts range from 46º to 60º.

Tour-W

As used by Lee Westwood, PING's Tour-W wedges feature a high-density, tungsten weight in the toe of the club with a view to increasing the moment of inertia and forgiveness. The tungsten weight also allows the clubhead, in a traditional teardrop shape, to be slightly smaller than standard to increase playability from a variety of lies.

Titleist
Vokey Design Spin Milled

Titleist Master Craftsman Bob Vokey has developed a new line of wedges, featuring nine different lofts, starting at 48º and rising in increments of two to 64º.

Hippo
Houdini

The Houdini wedges from Hippo are made from high-grade stainless steel and are available in forged steel and gunmetal finishes. They have been designed with a traditional profile, incorporating a flanged sole and peripheral weighting with a view to providing excellent playability. The wedges come fitted with True Temper steel shafts and Hippo premium velvet grips.

Hotblade
Wedges by Tad Moore

Hotblade promises its range of wedges will ‘deliver outstanding feel, balance and performance'. Its 56º Blaster sand iron comes with a wide sole design with a view to escaping from the worst of sandy lies, while the Gun Metal and Classic Chrome wedges both come in 52º, 56º and 60º. All three models have a 64º lie, and the Blaster is available in right-hand only.

Nike
Victory Red Forged

As used by Tiger Woods when he won the 2008 US Open, Nike's VR wedges feature new High Rev grooves which are milled to the maximum width and depth allowed, and the 1025 carbon steel clubs are precision forged with a view to providing exceptional feel and distance control.

Wilson Staff
Tw7

Padraig Harrington was instrumental in the design of the Tw7 Gap wedge (52º) and Lob wedge (58º or 60º), which he carries on Tour. Cast from 431 stainless steel, the clubs have a classic head-shape and a dark gunmetal finish. Wilson Staff's Control Grooves are cut to the USGA limit, and the clubs are fitted with True Temper Dynamic Gold Shafts and Golf Pride grips. The range also includes two Sand wedges (54º or 56º).

Tour Edge
Exotics Xtreme Spin

The Exotics Xtreme has a hollow face that is filled with thermal plastic elastomer (TPE), which allows the 1025 carbon steel face to be only 1.5mm thick, with a view to providing great feel and spin. The club also comes with a removable weight screw to be adjusted to personal preference, with weights of 2, 4 and 6 grams included. The wedge available in six loft/lie combinations and is fitted with a Dynamic Gold taper tip steel shaft and Golf Pride New Decade grip.

Benross
VX51 Forged Innovator

Complementing the VX51 irons from Benross, the wedges are intended for the accomplished golfer. Made from 1020 Forged Carbon Steel with an anti-glare brushed satin finish, the wedges come with a C-Grind sole, with a view to the club being used in sand, on the fairway or in the rough. Rifle Project X or True Temper Dynamic Golf shafts are standard, as are Golf Pride Tour Velvet grips. The VX51s come in loft/bounce combinations of 52º/7º, 56º/14º and 60º/5º.

PGA Collection
QPQ Tour Spin

PGA Collection's QPQ Tour Spin wedge is designed with a classic, rounded sole with a view to enabling the golfer to play creative shots from a variety of lies, with a high spin rate for greater control. The club is finished in anti-glare gunmetal, and it comes in four lofts for the right-handed golfer: 52º, 56º, 60º and 64º.

Lynx
Hallmark

Lynx has produced a trio of Hallmark wedges, at 52º, 56º and 60º. The forged clubs have CNC milled faces and they each come with a bounce designed for ease of use from the tightest of lies. The Hallmark is available in a Satin or Black Nikel finish, and they are fitted with True Temper Dynamic Golf shafts and Golf Pride New Decade grips.

Go
Gun Barrel & Oil Quench

Made with a traditional clubhead shape, the Gun Barrel and Oil Quench wedges from Go are made from high grade carbon steel and come fitted with True Temper steel shafts and Lamkin grips as standard. Both clubs come with a loft of 64º, with a view to golfers generating significant height from their wedge play.

TaylorMade
Z-TP

TaylorMade has milled Z grooves into the clubface of the Z-TP wedge to give golfers what the company believes is the best chance of achieving a high spin rate and stopping power. A C-Grind sole makes it easy for golfers to open the clubface and increase the loft for certain shots. With a smoked PVD finish the Z-TP comes in 54º, 56º and 58º.

Callaway
X-Forged

Made from forged 1020 carbon steel, Callaway has produced a pair of X-Forged wedges: New Satin Chrome and New Vintage, the latter being more popular with the company's Tour pros. Mack Daddy Grooves on the most lofted models give golfers the deepest and widest grooves allowed, with a C-Grind shape to ensure the club is suited to a range of tricky lies. The X-Forged wedges are available in 12 loft/bounce combinations, with lofts ranging from 48º to 64º.

Mizuno
MP T-Series

Mizuno claims the feel and precision of its Grain Flow Forging is at its most effective around the greens and with its MP Series wedges. The MP T has been updated to feature the versatile C-Grind sole design, and the club's grooves have been CNC precision milled rather than forged, to provide maximum traction as permitted by the R&A and USGA. Available in a double nickel chrome plated finish or in the softer Black Nickel finish, the T-Series wedges come in eight loft-lie combinations.

When it comes to club-fitting, most of us spend the majority of our time fitting irons and drivers, but in doing so we overlook one of the major routes to better scoring; putting. The old adage "drive for show, putt for dough" is painfully true when a golfer hits a great approach, only to miss the short putt. Don't forget that a six-inch putt counts the same as a 300-yard drive!

It will be hard to find better value for money than with Ram's all-weather FXi, priced at £5.99. The FXi technology features a fabric made from a blend of microfibre materials, designed to provide feel and traction, rain or shine, combined with a cabretta leather thumb and palm and Lycra inserts for a snug fit. Sunderland says its new Wet Weather synthetic glove is manufactured to the same high standards as all its apparel. The glove features a microfibre suede palm that is designed to increase traction when moist. The gloves are available in men's and women's sizes from small to extra large.

Evo-Elite

Asbri Golf's Evo-Elite cabretta leather glove is made from  exceptionally soft leather for great feel and grip, and the tab closure comes with magnetic ball marker that can be made with a corporate, club or society logo. Asbri also produces the ball markers in various flags of the world, while some golfers might prefer the ‘1 putt wonder' option printed on the marker.

Tour

Bridgestone's top of the range Tour glove is made from grade A cabretta leather with Lycra inserts, and comes with a cross cut tab and soft terry cuff. The glove has dual finger ventilation and it is finished with an embroidered logo on the tab. The Tour glove comes in white and in men's left-hand (regular and cadet) and right-hand (regular).

Dri-Fit Tour II

Worn by Tour golfers, the Dri-Fit Tour II is made from premium cabretta leather with Dri-Fit material on the back of the hand, fingers and gussets to ensure the glove fits well and is breathable. The angled tab closure derives from baseball gloves, and Nike says it provides a ‘superior ergonomic fit for all hand shapes and sizes'. It is available in small to extra large, right and left.

Hi-Tec
Power 700i

The 700i is one of two gloves just introduced by Hi-Tec, which are the first in the world to benefit from ion-mask technology. Ion-masking is a plasma technology that works at molecular level to repel liquids with remarkable efficiency, while still allowing the full-leather glove to breathe. Hi-Tec says the glove's ergonomic design provides a precision fit too.

Leather

Made from cabretta leather, the PGA Collection's glove comes with Lycra inserts for a comfortable fit and flexibility, with the heel and thumb pad of the glove reinforced for long-lasting performance. The glove comes in black and white, left-hand only, and in five sizes from small to extra large.

StaSof

Footjoy claims the StaSof is the number one premium cabretta leather, advanced performance love in the market. Its Pittards tanned Taction APL leather is designed to provide a grip that is both soft and tacky and the angled ComforTab closure should produce a better fit. The glove also has a Coolmax Lycra knuckle insert.

Pink Ribbon
Leather

The soft cabretta leather Pink Ribbon glove has vented fingers and a Pink Ribbon Velcro tab closure. It comes in small, medium and large and only left-handed, with £1.10 from every purchase going to breast cancer research and support.

Callaway
Big Bertha Diablo

One of four gloves Callaway is offering in 2009, the Big Bertha Diablo is the only synthetic model in the range. The glove does feature a cabretta leather palm, and benefits from Callaway's X-Spann technology which is designed to provide every golfer with the perfect, snug fit.

Adams
Grip Tek

The Grip Tek from Adams is an all-weather synthetic men's glove, with durability boosted by a reinforced palm patch. Stretch mesh inserts on the knuckles are designed to aid a comfortable fit and help with ventilation. Grip Tek comes in left and right-hand, in sizes from small through to extra large.

Snake Eyes
Premium

The Premium glove from Snake Eyes is made from high-grade cabretta leather, with cross stitching across the palm and fingers to boost durability and grip. The glove's Spandex fitting system runs between the fingers and over the knuckles to ensure a good fit. The glove comes in Snake Eyes black and white.

Go
All Weather

The synthetic All Weather glove from fast-growing brand Go comes with a reinforced palm and index finger for added durability, and it is made with elastic Lycra to ensure a snug fit. The men's gloves come in right and left-hand and in five sizes, whereas the ladies' gloves are left-hand only in small, medium and large.

MacWet
Winter

Glenmuir-owned MacWet's Winter gloves are insulated to offer the golfer windproof yet breathable protection in cold weather. The synthetic palm is designed to grip even when wet, and the gloves are also machine washable (up to 40 degrees, mind). The Winter MacWets come in pairs.

Wilson Staff
Pro Soft

Wilson Staff's Pro Soft is made from Stay Soft cabretta leather, complete with Tack-Tech technology, which promises exceptional grip and resistance to perspiration. The leather is coated with 3M Scotchgard for extra durability and softness, while a DuPont Lycra mesh covers three knuckles and fingers for a good fit and ventilation. The Pro Soft comes in six sizes, from small to XXL.

SensoGlove

SensoGlove is the world's first computerised golf glove. It looks and feels like a regular glove apart from the mini-computer and display screen installed on the back of the hand. In the palm and fingers of the glove are sensors that measure grip pressure 80 times per second, and when golfers grip too tightly, the computer emits a warning signal.

Precept
Performance Series

Precept's Performance Series for ladies come in five colours, three sizes and for the left-hand only. The synthetic all-weather gloves have a flexible mesh across the knuckles, the back of the hand and along two fingers to keep the glove breathable and well fitted. The glove also comes with a ball marker on the cuff.

Daily Sports
Leather

This is the only glove on display here with a paisley print. The distinctive Daily Sports glove is made from cabretta leather, it comes in sizes from small to extra large and for left and right-hand. It is also available in Sand, Summer, Breeze and Pink colour-ways.
