The GolfBuddy stores the information for up to 20,000 golf courses, with a European offering of over 6,000 courses currently under development, with a promise of reaching that mark by the end of 2009.
"We are mapping courses in Europe at a tremendous rate," says Peter Choi, GolfBuddy's vice-president of sales. "Before the golf season in 2009 the majority of European courses will be ready to go".
Another advantage of the GolfBuddy is that it automatically recognises the golf course it is being used on, and it will also identify the specific hole without any prompts.
Currently available in five European languages, GolfBuddy will display distances in yards or metres and it will save scores for up to 1,000 rounds of golf. The GolfBuddy comes in two models, Pro and Tour, with the Tour unit having the added feature of a colour display.
GolfBuddy's European operations are being based in Dublin, with former MacGregor European boss Jon Ennis taking the helm as general manager. Ennis is currently assembling a sales force of 50 to operate in 32 countries. 18 representatives were in place by the Orlando PGA Show.
