Odd Roar Lofterodsen was a knitting machine factory worker until he started to produce his own brand of women's underwear. When the Norwegian's son, Odd Roar Jun, started training with the Norwegian youth speed-skating squad in 1947, he found the standard-issue woollen underwear offered limited protection against freezing temperatures, so Lofterod made his son some underwear from Helanca fibres. Soon the entire Norwegian speed-skating fraternity was dressed in Helanca and Odlo had rapidly advanced into the heart of the winter sports market.
So ‘Evolution' is a particularly apt name for the base layer range launched by Odlo in 2008, and which is now being brought into golf. The line features the Evolution Light - in long sleeves, short sleeves or sleeveless - designed in a compression fit with models for men and women.
Made from a polyester-polyamid-elastane blend, the crew-neck Evolution Light is designed to remove moisture from the skin's surface to ensure effective body temperature regulation, and as the top is made with 3-D rotary knitting technology, with flat seems and stitching, the extremely lightweight garment feels seamless to wear and allows absolute freedom of movement.
