The tightly fitting apparel has been designed using data obtained from Computer Generated Virtual golfers, which have been developed after Mizuno asked its Japanese Tour pros to hit shots at its R&D facility wearing a sensory body suit. Mizuno then analysed the stress and flex points in golf clothing to establish where conventional and fashion-led clothing did not work in tandem with the golf swing. The Virtual Body Collection has been designed with contoured panelling and technical materials to support golfing motions.
"Previous design concepts were based on the actual body, which is a more static approach," explains Shimon Tsujino, Mizuno's apparel specialist. "Using CGi golfers, we could look at the swing more dynamically. Most golf clothing follows a conventional or fashion-based design template whereas Virtual Body offers a unique step forward, which has been tested extensively on the Japanese tour."
The new range became available at the beginning of September.
