Sensoglove looks and feels like a regular glove, apart from the mini-computer and display screen installed on the back of the hand. In the palm and fingers of the glove there are sensors that measure a golfer's grip pressure 80 times per second, and when golfers grip the club too tightly, the computer emits a warning signal, and the 3cm screen also offers a read-out analysis.
"Gripping the club too tightly is one of the most destructive flaws in a golfer's technique because it causes muscle tension, which itself leads to poor rhythm and jerky movement," says David Bauer, from the glove's developers SensoSolutions. "With the SensoGlove, golfers of all levels can experience the correct grip pressure, and the results are improved timing, higher club head speed and a more efficient and repeatable golf swing."
This cabretta leather practice aid has a range of 18 settings for sensitivity, and when the gloves wear out golfers can buy replacements into which the battery-operated mini-computer simply clicks.
Adds Bauer: "By starting on a low setting and moving through to the higher settings, golfers are able to modify their grip pressure over a short period of time until they reach the ultimate, light grip."
