As the 2017 European Tour season concluded in Dubai, Titleist golf ball loyalist Tommy Fleetwood claimed the Race to Dubai title, rounding-off another year of success for the #1 ball in golf. Once again, more players relied upon the performance excellence of the Pro V1 franchise at every one of the 48 events making up the Race to Dubai, with Titleist golf ball loyalists amassing an incredible 30 victories including three Major Championships.
Fleetwood topped the Race to Dubai rankings to cap the best season of his career to date, which has included two wins, first at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in his first event after switching to a Titleist golf ball, and second at the HNA Open de France. Fleetwood added two runner-up finishes to his victories, as well as a 4th place finish at the U.S. Open.
Joining the Race to Dubai champion in choice of golf ball, a staggering 73% of all European Tour players chose to tee up a Pro V1 or Pro V1x this season, compared to 9% for the nearest competitor. With the #1 ball in golf in play, Titleist golf ball loyalists achieved 30 tournament victories across the 48 events which made up The European Tour season.
The performance excellence of the Pro V1 family was evident in each of these victories, including notable wins for Titleist Brand Ambassadors Jordan Spieth (Pro V1x) and Justin Thomas (Pro V1x) who claimed Major Championship victories at the Open and USPGA Championship, respectively. Indeed, these wins contributed to a total of 12 Major victories for Titleist golf ball users across the men’s, women’s and seniors’ games in 2017.
For their wins, both Spieth and Thomas gamed a combination of the brand’s new 718 irons and Titleist golf ball, while fellow brand ambassador, Rafa Cabrera Bello (Pro V1x) was the first to achieve success using a full set of Titleist 718 prototype MB irons with victory at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.
Michael Creighton, Titleist Golf Ball Manager, UK Region said, “Not only are we extremely proud that more players on the European Tour choose to tee up a Titleist golf ball than any other brand, we are also proud to say that Titleist was the overwhelming golf ball of choice at each of the year’s Major Championships. To see so many victories by our brand ambassadors and golf ball loyalists is testament to the unrivalled performance of Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls.”
History was made throughout the season by a number of Titleist golf ball loyalists including Branden Grace (Pro V1x) who fired a stunning round of 62 at the Open – the first time a 62 had been recorded in a Major Championship. At the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, Tyrrell Hatton (Pro V1x) successfully defended his title, making him only the fourth player in history to defend the same event for his first two wins. Meanwhile, SSP Chawrasia (Pro V1x) became the first player whose first four wins were in their home country, and the first Indian to successfully defend a European Tour title.
Creighton continued, “From all of us at Titleist, we offer huge congratulations to Tommy Fleetwood on a season to remember, and a massive thank you to all the players who put their trust in the #1 ball in golf throughout the season.”
