ECCO Golf has announced the release of a limited-edition range of BIOM® HYBRID CLASSIC shoes to commemorate Ernie Els’ 100th major championship appearance at this week’s US PGA Championship.
To celebrate The Big Easy reaching the historic milestone, the Danish shoemakers will produce just 100 pairs of the famed ECCO BIOM HYBRID CLASSIC design in bespoke colours as chosen by Els himself.
Carrying Els’ iconic logo on the upper, sole and tongue, each shoe will also be numbered from one to 100 on the heel. This special edition design will be available shortly for pre-order in the U.S. only.
Els will become just the 13th player in the history of the game to have teed it up in 100 majors; a record which includes victories at two Open Championships (’02 and ’12) and two US Opens (’94 and ’97).
In addition to his four wins, he has sustained a remarkable level of consistency throughout his career, maintaining a top-10 finish rate of 35% in majors since he made his debut in the 1989 Open Championship at Royal Troon.
Commenting on the bespoke designs and his relationship with ECCO, Els said: “Obviously, I’m delighted to join what is an extremely exclusive ‘100 Club’ and to be able to partner with ECCO and produce these limited shoes is a fitting way to celebrate the achievement.
“It says a lot about the company that they thought to come to me with this idea. It’s been fun to be involved in the design process and now seeing the final product.”
